I was so excited when Mr. D asked me to do a portrait session with him and his wife a couple of months ago.
I met Mr. D when I started working for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Care and Control Division back in September 2007 as a vet tech, shortly after moving to NC. Mr. D, John Dellinger was a kennel attendant at the shelter. When a new employee first starts work there, they start off doing kennel work (which includes processing, restraining, cleaning etc) even if they’re a vet tech or officer. I was lucky enough to start my training under Mr. D who held down the holding ward where animals are processed (tagged, vaccinated, checked for ID) when they first come in. And customary to pretty much anyone he meets, John and I became fast friends.
He retired last year, but anyone who has had the pleasure of working with him can attest to the fact that Mr D was the hardest working person at ACC and well-liked by all.
In addition to his portrait photo request, I’m also working on a huge photo restoration project for him. Scanning and restoring 60 very old photographs of his family and making copies for each of his siblings – samples will be posted when I’m done.
So here are just a few great photos and a few outtakes from the evening portrait session spent with Mr and Mrs D. Watching them interact was very entertaining — they really do have a great relationship…and are super wonderful people.
